Last Day

Today is my 4th last day at Edmonds Community College. I keep quitting or getting laid off and then they keep hiring me back again, it's kinda funny. ;) But I think today it might be my real last day because I'm starting student teaching/observing so I think this is it. :( I love working here because the people in Enrollment Services are so awesome, so it is a sad day. But that's ok, it's better to have a wonderful job ( that I've been at for 4 years) and mourn my last day than to have hated my job these past 4 years and rejoice over my last day! God's been good to me through this job and I am very grateful for the time I've had here and look forward to where God will have me next! :)

Back at EdCC

I went to visist my work at EdCC where I was laid off less than a month ago, walk into my bosses office and I get asked, "you want your job back for the rest of summer?" So, I'm back at Enrollment Services at Edmonds Community College! The Lord does answer prayer. It is only for a little more than a month, but He does provide! :) So, I'm working at a place I love once again!

Mexican Snow

I was suppost to be in Mexico right now, but didn't work out exaclty as planned...Our flight was cancelled, and they were not doing any rebooking until the 30th!!! So, I played in the snow instead! :)

All Done!

I finished my finals today. It's a strange feeling to constantly work so hard and then all the sudden be free! I am thrilled to be done, but am not quite ready to relax yet. I'm leaving for Mexico in but 4 days and have much to do in that short amount of time. But, some Sunday morning, I will be on a plane headed to warm relaxation! :)

Road

I'm driving to school at 6 in the morning, its dark and the memories of skidding my way to church yesterday are fresh in my mind. The roads scare me with their black ice coverings and snow remains swirling atop them. I drive carefully, praying to God no one gets in an accident, including me! I make it onto the freeway safely, where the frightening parts of the road are no longer quite as pertinent, the black ice is no where to be seen or felt and the swirling snow is dissipated, yet I still am unnerved. A big truck pulls in front of me as I'm driving nervously down the road. He seems sure of himself, he would never crash, he's strong and stable. So I think to myself, let's follow him, he looks safe. Forgetting that I had just asked God to keep me safe but a minute ago, I look to the big truck ahead of me for safety! I stay behind the truck, feeling secure, following him. And then he gets off. I whimper aloud, "my truck left me", and immediately I see what I was doing. I was putting my trust in someone/something other than God.

This might seem extremely silly, but it made me think of all the times that I do this in my everyday life. I look to other people to keep me safe, to guide me. The thing is, eventually they'll all leave. They look, and they might be strong, stable, safe and secure, but they're no God. God is always with me and will never get off the freeway of my life. Not to say that we can't follow people, God puts people in our lives to guide us, but ultimately, God is who we are to follow.

So, this is one of the many lessons God is teaching me right now: Look to Him.

Just as God guided the Israelites through thick and thin, through battle and desert, He will guide us and keep us safe. He is a good God who will not let His people down.

Nehemiah 9:17-19

Work

I thought working at Edmonds CC would be only a summer job, but they have offered to keep me on as a perminate part time employee. So, great news! I don't have to search for a job come September!!! :) I really do love it here at EdCC, and look forward to another year here with all my work buddies!

Life at the Klondike

I think I've mentioned that I'm interning at the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park in downtown Seattle/Pioneer Square. I'm actually here now, a great thing, when there's no one here I can just read or go on the internet! There is a large stack of books they want me to read to get educated on the Klondike Gold Rush. But that's totally ok, I love it in fact! Not all are as interesting as some, but it's history and I have from 9-5 every Saturday that I'm here to read, so it's pretty great. I just read a book called "Gold Rush Fever" by Barbara Greenwood. It was GREAT! I would recommend it to anyone who is even mildly interested in this subject. It was made for a younger crowd, so it was an easy read, had tons of pictures, was straight forward, factual and related it to life today. Gives applications to make the story of the Klondike Gold Rush more real to any one reading it. I enjoyed it. Y'all should check it out. In fact...you should come visit the museum! It's a pretty nice lifttle place we got here. I mean come on, you can see how much you would be worth if you were gold with this handy dandy weighing machine!! They also have short videos to watch (one of which I watched today!) and a tour of this area, which I went on today...that's something I'd like to do eventually, give tours of historical sites, I think that sounds quite thrilling! and one other thing the museum has on saturdays...me! I'm in the gift shop, so come visit!

Well, I think I'm gogint to start on another book now...maybe one that isn't aimed at elementary age kids. Nah, those are the good kinds. ;)

Updates

It has been a long while since I have written here and I thought it was time to add a few things.

I now have an internship at the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park (yes, I know it has an extraordinarily long name). It is in downtown Seattle by Pioneer Square. I am thoroughly enjoying it! I work in the gift shop right now, and soon will be splitting up my time between the gift shop and the actual museum. I love the people I'm working with, they are wonderful people and they all are passionate about history!

For work this summer I am back at Edmonds Community College in the Enrollment Services office, this I am also loving. It's wonderful to have a job where after a long day in the office I can honestly say that I had fun at work! :)

Ok, something ultra exciting...my brother and his wife are having a baby!! (Oh by the way, my brother got married!) It is going to be a little girl and she is due on August 28th. So soon!!! Here's an ultrasound picture, a little old, but still cool.

I just finished dog sitting for one of my coworkers on Saturday and stared dog sitting on Monday for my neighbor! Both times I'm staying at their houses, so I'm not home much. It's been good though, made me positive I never want to have a dog. It's just too much hassle to have to come home to feed the dog and/or let them out to pee! I don't like having that much of a commitment! I've got things to do, people to see, places to go!! :) But it's a ok for a few weeks while people are out on vacations.

Since it's summer break I've been doing a lot of reading when I'm not working or whatnot. That's been nice. some books I've been reading are, "Practicing History" (A prof from Northwest sent me this book from one of her favorite authors because she thought I would enjoy it! How sweet is that!!!), I've just started "The Five Languages of Apology", this one's for a summer Bible Study I'm in...don't really know much about it besides the fact that it's about apology. Also reading "Night", a biography of a guy who lived through the Holocaust. I just finished "Deadline", book about three friends and heaven and hell, interesting but not a favorite of mine. I didn't put in any of the authors because I don't know any...I have a few other books I want to start up on soon, one main one being "Mere Christianity" by C. S. Lewis. Never read it and wanted to for a while now.

Not really much else going on. My friends who supply me with much of my summer fun are in Europe for 3 months. Great for them, I'm glad they went, but my summer is definitely lacking random and wildly exciting adventures.

Kidnapping

There I was, innocently minding my own business...when I was kidnapped by Laura and Amy! I was in their frightening hands for a whole evening 'til they released me!

They made me sit in a scary chair (every thing's a bit more frightening when you can't see it...)


They were threatening me!!! Not really, but it was cold...I had no clue where I was.

Then they took me to a friend's house, Shelly.

And put me in the garage...I stayed in there while they left with a scary noise in the backround (aside from the blaring classical music). I roamed through the house for a while until I went out the front door where they were waiting for me!

Then I got blindfolded again...and into the car for one last trip...to Starbucks!!

It's going to be a good semester, I'm liking my classes so far, but it's definetly going to be tough. Harder than last semester!! Yet, extremely enjoyable.

Pill Hill Construction

My dad is the superintendent for a new medical/surgical/orthopedics wing of Swedish Hospital and I went to go visit him this morning for a tour of the site and lunch. I just have to say, it was pretty darn amazing! All that goes into the building is incredible. I went into the surgery rooms (every thing's just shells right now, no walls, just beams), and seeing all the slots for oxygen and all the tubes that come down form the ceiling. I don't know how to describe it, I wish I had brought a camera...But it was pretty cool just seeing all the complexity within the walls. So, if any of you go into that place in a year or so when it's all finished and you get work done on your body, it was my dad who built it!!

Murder She Wrote

My big brother gave me the first two seasons of Murder She Wrote and I am seriously looking forward to watching people confess crazy murders to Jessica Fletcher! It always amazed me how people just confessed at the end of the show. If I murdered someone I would never say, 'You can't prove anything!' and I wouldn't just confess! Not that I'm planning on killing anyone, that would just be sad but, it would be kind cool for Angela Lansbury to investigate me...

Jessica Fletcher is pretty much AWESOME!! (And guess what...my mom just turned Murder She Wrote on in the other room!)

Remember When...

A few memories with various people. No names on them, but I'm guessing if you're in one of them you'll remember too, or at least be able to figure out if they're with you...

Remember when we danced in the car on the way to the retreats? (Oh, Queen!!)

Remember when we drew beds on the cement and played make believe?

Remember when we had Christmas in Hawaii and we watched the first Korean soap opera?

Remember when we spent the weekend with those dog things?

Remember when we traveled on our boats?

Remember when we had Bible study in Starbucks?

Remember when we met crazy Star Trek people in Las Vegas?

Remember when we climbed all over those scary logs and didn't really go anywhere?

Remember when we went swimming with all our clothes on?

There are of course many more fun memories, but for now, this will just have to do.

Finals

I am all done! I just finished my last final and I am thrilled! It's a little weird, but defiantly a good feeling...now I get to read for fun!!!

Living

For those of you who don't know, my roommate and I will be moving out of the dorms into the apartments on campus. I think we're going to miss the dorms, but I'm pretty sure we'll live! So, with that said, I have to go pack my stuff up now...

House & War

Lately some friends from school and I have gotten really into watching House (if you don't know what that is...well figure it out, it's amazing!). And I just have to say, it seems to be a bit ironic to me. Let me tell you why. I hate medical and bloody stuff, it makes me sick, yet in my free time I watch medical shows and read books and study about war. I find these things quite entertaining and extremely interesting. I just thought it was a bit weird, but no matter...you all should go watch House now. I know I am! Who needs to do homework? Hugh Laurie is all the education I need!!
